Welcome again to Valentine Media’s weekly blog. Last week I talked about website domains, this week I would like to focus on the social media portion of internet real estate.

Like I said last week, try to obtain as many sites as you can with your business’ name. According to Forbes magazine, 92% of business owners consider social media to be important to their business, which is up from 86% in 2013. Even if you’re not using certain social media sites yet, it’s best to reserve your name just in case for any future involvement with them.

Two of the most popular social media sites are facebook and twitter. Facebook is the number one social media site out there. It’s always best to at least reserve the page name. Most retail and service companies use facebook as a way to get in touch with their customers. If you are more of a business to business company, a site like linkedin might be best for you. Other social media sites to look at would be Pinterest & Google +.

Once you’ve staked your claim, it’s time to start setting everything up from pictures to general information. These social media sites allow you to put your hours, location, and other information that will guide your customers to making the right choice when looking at your business and your services. Also, make sure that these social media pages link back to your main website. By setting up social media pages and having them link to your site, it will help bring in more visitors and hopefully, more customers.

Now that you have your website domain names registered and your social media pages named and under your control it’s time to move on to the next step, building your webpage.

Next week I will help guide you in the creation of your page and what things to incorporate into your site.
