Does your law firm need a website?

The simple answer is yes, but let’s dive in and see why and what goes into planning and creating a law firm website.

Potential clients seek out legal advice every day online. Be sure that your firm has a strong presence online. The backbone of your web presence should be your website. You need to be able to present yourself professionally and clearly communicate your expertise in your service fields.

The Purpose of your Website

Having a website for your law firm should serve several purposes. It needs to provide information on yourself and your firm, showcase the services you provide, and offer clear ways potential clients can contact you about those services.

The purpose of having a website for your law firm is to provide information on yourself and your services for visitors to make informed decisions to hire you. Your potential clients are visiting your website because they have a problem that needs to be solved. Your role is to introduce yourself and guide them to their desired outcome by showing them the services you provide and explain how they can help. Using a narrative like this is beneficial to capturing leads that can land you business.

So the three main steps would be:

  1. Identify problems that your potential clients may have
  2. Highlight your services that will solve those problems
  3. Provide clear ways for them to contact you about hiring your services

What makes a good website?

A good website should be functional and available to everyone. Your law firm’s website should be clean and clear in both its appearance and message. It should be mobile friendly and ADA compliant. If your website is not accessible to everyone you may be missing out on some great leads.

Some very important elements you should consider when having a website designed and built are:

  • Easy to use Navigation. You want your visitors to easily move throughout your website to get the information you are providing them.
  • Mobile Friendly. Your law firm’s website should be accessible on an array of digital devices like Desktop computers, Laptops, Tablets, and Mobile Phones.
  • Clean Design. You want your website to be clean and easy to read. You also want to use elements like alt-text tags on your images for page readers to convey image descriptions to people who have eyesight issues.
  • Testimonials. A great selling point on any website is to have testimonials strategically placed throughout your website.
  • Calls to Action. A call to action is when you ask your visitor to act on the information you are providing them. This could be a phone call, filling out a form, or sending an email.

How Your Law Firm’s Website Should Be Structured

A basic website for a law firm should have these four basic pages.

  • Home Page – This will more than likely be the first page potential clients visit. It is a great way to make a brief introduction and capture the attention of your readers so you can further guide them the services they need and get in contact with you.
  • About Page – An About page is a way to communicate with your visitors your mission statement and further inform them of who you are and how you stand out from the rest of your competition.
  • Services Page – A general Services page is a good way to list your services and go into detail of how they can solve your visitors problems. This page can also branch off to individual service pages if you want to provide a more detailed summary of your services.
  • Contact Page – This is a very important page on any website. It is a page soley designated for potential clients to get in touch with you about your services. On this page it is best to have a contact form, along with your contact information such as phone number, email address, and mailing address.
