There are so many reasons to build a website, whether you’re a non-profit organization working to help others or a business looking to gain clients or make sales.
Now you can do it yourself and spend weeks learning coding, or use can use one of the many tools out there to build a website. Three of the tools that I will discuss in this blog post will be WordPress, Squarespace, & Wix.
Build a Website: Which method is better
WordPress is an open source platform that was originally built for blogging, but over the years it has been streamlined more to be a content management system for websites as a whole and can also implement ecommerce. Since it is open source, the software itself is free. You can purchase various themes and plugins so that your website can perform the way you want it to. The beauty of WordPress is that it can be installed on a variety of hosts like Siteground, Hostgator, & GoDaddy. When you use WordPress, you own your site and can move it to any host you want while keeping the design and content. It allows you a lot of freedom from the look to the functionality.
Squarespace is a quick and easy to use system that can build simple and professional looking websites in a short amount of time. However, it is quite limited in what you can have your site do. Squarespace has a variety of very nice looking templates to choose from that can give your site great curb appeal. One of the major downsides is that it is limited in what you can do with it and it is hosted on their servers, so you are basically renting space from them and you will not be able to transfer your site as it appears on Squarespace to another service or hosting provider should you choose to leave Squarespace.
Wix is very similar to Squarespace as a service. You are renting their space and with using their apps (some free and some paid) you can build a decent website that can do what you need it to do. It also includes a drag & drop builder that allows you to better customize your website, but you cannot change the template of your site once you have chosen one. Wix is also a challenge when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but they have made many improvements.
So who is the champion in this Build A Website Triple-Threat match?
WordPress comes out the victor since it allows you a wide range of customizations, great with SEO, and you can move your site to any host you want. WordPress allows you more freedom than the other two.
